A Baltimore County (MD) native and lifelong resident, Alfred W. Redmer, Jr. has been engaged in business, state government, and community service for more than three decades. In that time, he established, owned, and operated a number of firms, including several in the insurance industry, his particular area of expertise.
Today Mr. Redmer is managing member of Redmer Insurance Group, LLC a Baltimore County-based firm that serves small-to-mid-sized businesses in the greater Baltimore area. Earlier, Mr. Redmer had been partner and president of Landmark Insurance & Financial Group, and, still earlier, he served as chief executive officer of Coventry Health Care of Delaware, Inc., a publicly traded managed care organization.
A 13-year member of the Maryland General Assembly, Redmer served two years as the House Minority Leader. In 2003 Mr. Redmer was appointed insurance commissioner of Maryland by then-Governor Robert Ehrlich. He managed a $21 million-budget and 280 employees.
Throughout his career, Mr. Redmer has been active in community and nonprofit organizations that support business enterprises, education, and youth. He is current or former member of a number of chambers of commerce in Baltimore and Harford counties; serves on the board of CCBC Essex Foundation, Inc.; is a member of Peninsula Medical Center’s Regional Health Council; and belongs to a variety of fraternal, marine, and recreational organizations.
Married to the former Sandy Nelson, Sandy and Al have five children and four grandchildren.
He resides in the Middle River section of Baltimore County.
